Oasis Nursery

About

Our Ofsted-registered nursery is located in the heart of Cobham in the community-run Cedar Centre. We offer both government funded places and self-funded places for up to 30 hours a week.

Experienced Staff

Run by a highly qualified, experienced and friendly staff, the Oasis nursery offers a wide range of activities, so the children have fun while learning new skills.

The team have attained additional qualifications in children’s emotional development, special needs and inclusivity, as well as Levels 1 & 2 of the Makaton programme which focuses on the development of children’s communication and language skills. You can read more about their experience below:

Joanne Lucas – Nursery Manager

I started my career in childcare while looking after my two young children and went onto receive my Level 3 Early Years qualification. I was introduced to Oasis and the work they did through the childminding network, and I began helping out with the charity’s stay-and-play sessions. Once Oasis opened their Ofsted-registered nursery in 2015, I worked my way up to the position of Nursery Manager, as well as earning a BA Hons in Special Educational Needs & Inclusive Practice. I have also attained Makaton Levels 1 & 2.

I thoroughly enjoy my work and the challenges it brings. The support and inspiration I receive both professionally and personally is amazing. I love exploring the children’s passions and potential, and helping them to realise them alongside their parents.

Maya Dempsey

I started looking after children when I came to the UK 22 years ago. I first ran a parent and toddler group for a few years with two of my friends. During this time, I completed my NVQ 3 in childcare and development. I then met Caroline and became aware of the amazing work that she does at Oasis and the nursery she and her team run at the Cedar Centre.

I joined the nursery team and see first-hand the invaluable support we give to the many vulnerable families who come to Oasis. I have also been encouraged to continue my education and have attained Makaton Levels 1 & 2.

Caroline and Joanne also encourage me to further my education, and during my time here I have also gained a BA hons degree in Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Practice.

I’ve always loved working with children. I have worked in several different nursery settings, but the Oasis nursery is by far the most rewarding, and I thoroughly enjoy my one day a week there!

It’s exhausting, but fun!

Kylie Hanson

I was first introduced to Oasis Childcare when I attended a course called, “The Parenting Puzzle.” As I had a two-year-old daughter – Nancy – I used the creche service provided by Oasis which was the first time I had left her with other people. In doing so, I realised how amazing the Oasis team and their values were.

I began working at Oasis when Nancy joined a pre-school nursery. The charity encouraged me to train as a Level 3 Early Years Educator during which I enjoyed understanding how children learn and develop. During my time with the nursery I have also achieved the status of Emotional Health Practitioner.

I love the open-minded approach Oasis use to suit and support the needs of each individual child. I have used my patience and understanding to be able to tune into a situation and understand the emotional side of what is going on. Most of all I love how as a team we really do adapt to the needs of anyone that requires help or support.

We also support each other within the team which makes it feel like a family – it’s brilliant!

I moved to England in 2016 and had my daughter in 2018. I was introduced to Oasis and accessed
some of their services. My daughter began attending their nursery and I asked if I could volunteer to help improve my English skills and as a way to see if I enjoyed working with children. I am now working at Oasis and taking my Level 2 Early Years Educator qualification.

I love working at Oasis as it feels like my second home and everyone there feels like family. I am confident and happy when I am at work helping the children to grow and flourish.

Chloe Gunson

I have been working in childcare for over six years and completed my Level 3 Childcare qualification in 2022.  My favourite activities in the nursery involve lots of messy play, which I get fully involved in and I end up getting messier than the children!

I also have a qualification in animal care.  I love to spend a lot of my spare time with my animals.  I have 2 bearded dragons and 3 dogs.  I also care for some horses and spend lots of time riding them and playing in the field with them.

At Oasis I’m enjoying getting to know all the children, and looking forward to new experiences and furthering my knowledge.
